The home for the Virginia Tourism Industry, Virginia.org contains a wealth of information for visitors and residents of the Commonwealth.

Virginia Tourism

Virginia Tourism tasked us with exploring the small towns of Winchester, Lexington, and Yorktown to create “Small Town Love,” a series of two-day travel guides highlighting restaurants, attractions, accommodations and more. Through in-person visits, meetings with local business owners, and research into each town's history, we wrote guides for first-time visitors that brought each of these destinations to life.

Small Town Love: The Top Things to Do in Yorktown

Founded in 1691, Yorktown rose to prominence as a trading port in the 1700s and is perhaps best known as the location of the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War. It’s a must-visit for history buffs, who will love exploring 18th-century battlefields and buildings.

A visit to Winchester offers a mix of old and new: Civil War landmarks and historic homes — including one belonging to Winchester native and country music legend Patsy Cline — sit alongside contemporary galleries, craft breweries, and shops. The Shenandoah city is also home to the Apple Blossom Festival each spring, as well as farms and orchards in the surrounding countryside.

Small Town Love: The Top Things to Do in Lexington

There’s something for everyone in Lexington. The Shenandoah Valley college town, home to both Washington & Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute, is a fit for history buffs with sites to explore including the Stonewall Jackson House. The historic downtown offers well-curated shops and art galleries housed in 18th- and 19th-century buildings, while outdoor adventures around Rockbridge County as well as the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail are just a short drive away.
